The Mindful Belly Mission
The Mindful Belly is a space for women navigating the sacred transition into motherhood —
offering grounded, embodied support through postpartum recovery,
nervous system care, nourishment, breathwork, and conscious family living.
About Marya
A student of the body, motherhood, and the natural intelligence of life.
I’ve come to realize that I’m a lifelong student of life.
Not the traditional kind.
School was never easy for me. Reading, writing, sitting still in classrooms — those things always felt like they belonged to someone else’s rhythm, not mine. But when I discovered subjects that truly mattered to me, something changed. I began asking questions. I wanted to understand how things worked, how small pieces connected to larger systems.
That curiosity eventually led me into nearly fifteen years of post-secondary education studying the human body.
Today I work as an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner, Certified Athletic Therapist, and Breathwork Facilitator supporting people in understanding how their bodies heal, adapt, and reorganize.
But the deeper education has come through life itself.
Learning from the body
My professional training has given me a detailed understanding of human anatomy, physiology, movement and performance. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of working with elite athletes, active individuals, and families seeking a deeper understanding of their health.
Yet the most meaningful lesson has always been the same:
The body already knows how to heal.
When given the right conditions — rest, nourishment, breath, connection, support — it has an extraordinary capacity to restore balance.
Osteopathy has helped me see the body not as a collection of parts, but as an intelligent system constantly working toward health.
That perspective shapes everything I share here in The Mindful Belly.
Motherhood: the great teacher
Becoming a mother has expanded that understanding in ways no textbook or lecture ever could.
Motherhood is one of the most profound physiological, emotional and spiritual transitions a woman can experience.
It reorganizes the body, nervous system, identity, and the rhythms of everyday life.
And yet many women move through this season without the support or understanding they truly need.
The Mindful Belly was born from that space — where professional knowledge meets lived experience.
It’s a place to explore how mothers can move through pregnancy, postpartum, and family life with greater steadiness, nourishment, and self-trust.
Life beyond the clinic
Outside of my work, my life is rooted in family and the natural world.
I’m the wife of a farmer and the mother of three beautiful children who constantly remind me how intelligent, resilient and loving we humans truly are.
Living closely with the land has deepened my appreciation for the natural systems that sustain us — soil, food, seasons, and the quiet rhythms that shape healthy thriving life.
These experiences continue to influence how I think about wellness, motherhood, and the environment we create for our families.
Why this space exists
The Mindful Belly exists to offer a different kind of support for mothers.
Not quick fixes.
Not pressure to “bounce back.”
Not perfection.
Instead, this space returns to the foundations:
Rest.
Nourishment.
Breath.
Connection.
Small things that allow the body — and the mother — to find steadiness again.
Clinical Background
Clinical Background
My work with mothers is supported by both clinical training and lived experience.
For over 20 years I have studied and practiced in fields focused on understanding how the body heals, adapts, and restores balance.
My professional background includes:
-
Certified Athletic Therapy — working with athletes and active individuals in injury recovery, rehabilitation, and functional movement.
-
Osteopathic Manual Practice (D.O.M.P and D.Sc.O) — completed through the Canadian College of Osteopathy in Toronto, a five-year program centered on anatomy, physiology, and the body’s natural capacity for self-regulation.
-
Breathwork Facilitation through Seven Directions Breathwork — a trauma-informed breathwork training rooted in self-exploration, nervous system awareness, and guided breath practices.
Breathwork has become one of the most powerful tools I share with women because it offers a simple and accessible way to support the physical body and gently guide nervous system regulation during the often overwhelming transitions in life, especially pregnancy and postpartum.
Through my clinical work I have supported individuals across the lifespan, including those navigating pregnancy, postpartum recovery, nervous system regulation, and functional movement challenges.
The Mindful Belly brings together this professional background with the lived experience of motherhood — offering grounded support for women navigating one of life’s most profound transitions.
But clinical knowledge alone is not what most mothers need in the moment.
We need something that feels steady.
Something honest.
Something that stays with us when the days blur together and the nights feel long.
This work eventually became something more — a written companion for mothers moving through postpartum in real time.
A place where the truths of this season can be spoken honestly, and where support doesn’t disappear when the day gets hard.
A Simple Place to Begin
If you’re in the early weeks of motherhood (or well into it)— when the days seem to blur together, everything feels bigger than expected or just a little bit... ridiculous, this is a place to start.
The Postpartum Grounding Checklist is a simple anchor built around three things:
-
Rest
-
Feed
-
Connect
Nothing complicated.
Not a routine to perfect
Just something steady to come back to when the days feel full
